Today is the first day of Chinese New Year! Wishing everyone “Gong Xi Fa Cai” and a prosperous new year ahead. This is the first new year for me after getting married, which means the first time for me to distribute “angpao” to the younger generation. Also, need to spend some time over at my in law’s place as well during the new year.
Much of the action for new year celebration happened well before the actual day itself. Everyone will be busy cleaning up their house, decorating it, buying gifts and snacks for the new year and so on. Gifts will be given to relatives as a sign of respect and appreciation, and “angpao” will be given to the younger generation as a form of blessing.
Chinese New Year has never been too lively in my family all along. We will only visit a few relatives, and usually on the second day, some relatives will drop by my house for lunch and dinner and that’s about it. Anyway, I still cherish the time of the year because this is when everyone can get together and catch up with each other in person.
Once agin, Happy Chinese New Year for those who celebrates. Till then.
